Hello, or should I say “Holo?”

Welcome to my blog!

I am an avid nail polish user and collector with a bottle count in the 250 300 “ridiculous” range as of this post. (If two filled-to-the-gills Helmers gives you any idea…) I have polish in a wide range of colors, finishes and almost every brand available in the United States, although I definitely have my favorites.

(I love most any holographic finish, whether chunky or smooth and while I can see the merit in calling certain finishes “prismatic,” I will always refer to them as holographic as a throwback to the National Geographic cover I vaguely recall marveling over as a young girl. Anyone else remember this iconic image?)

(For those of you keeping track, this cover was published in March of 1984, which makes it 25+ years ago! Feel old yet?)

I am a thirty-something female with a husband who tolerates my hobby and no kids of my own, although I have been a nanny for the same family for 14 years.

All three kids are in school now, so I am a (not-so) glorified chauffeur.

That being said, I really enjoy the time spent shuttling everyone from school to Tae Kwon Do, from soccer to baseball, from Chinese to golf lessons, from tee ball to Bollywood dance class(!) and everywhere in between, because that time is counting down as they get older, to the day when I am no longer needed. *sniff *

I appreciate all things crafty, but find that I am more adept at certain skills like papercrafting, calligraphy, sewing and card-making than others like crocheting, knitting , baking or cooking. (although I love the challenge, and don’t mind licking the bowl after a failed recipe!)

I am fond of the immediate gratification that nail art gives whether it be Konad patterns, magnetically-activated “stars” or actual hand-painted designs.  That a mistake can be wiped away with one swipe of remover is just a bonus.

In real life, I have a handful of close friends, none of whom share the extreme addiction affinity that I have for nail polish. My one biological sister, who is my best friend, lives several states away and will humor me by trying some of the sheerer glitters on her acrylics.

Of the rest of the females in my blended family, (my mom, 3 sisters-in-law, 2 step-sisters-in-law, 1 mom-in-law, 1 step-mom-in-law, 2 nieces in 2 different states)  I hold out the most hope for my nieces and look forward to the day when they come crying to their Aunt Monica because their moms “just don’t understand them!”

Oh, there will be sympathy mani/pedis when that day comes!

I discovered many kindred spirits on the NailBoard (NB) on MakeupAlley (MUA) and have never looked back. My username is wixbetty and while I am a relative swap newb, I found that I have come up with some unique ways to address certain polish-related issues and, with some encouragement from the NB, this blog was born.

  1. Hi Wixology !

OOP’s I was so enamored with your nail wheels organization and storage… & the microscope thing, I did not even write about asking to post a picture…. hopefully people just went to your site to look for themselves.

That is very impressive, my husband and I looked them up and we decided to get the “night vision” for him, and I will get the eye-clops!

Thank you so much for posting the eye-clops and your magnified photo’s

  4. Monica, I so remember that cover!!! I loved it too. Hmmm. Do you think it is responsible for our artistic fascination? xoxo

    • Well, I don’t know about that, but it is definitely responsible for my fascination with everything holographic!
Good thing they don’t make holographic paint for cars, yet…<3

  5. Hey, Monica!
